Lord Ganesh is also called Ganapati in Maharashtra Region.
Ganesh has two wives, Riddhi and Siddhi. And together they represent prosperity and wisdom. Lord Ganesh is also associated with the symbol of fertility. That’s why he is surrounded by his Mushak i.e. Rat Where he Sits , while doing Ganesh puja Dhruva & blades of grass which devotees offer to him while praying. Basically, the rat is also a fertility symbol because it reproduces rapidly. Same with the grass. It grows as soon as one plucked it.
This Ganapati festival was started by Bal Gangadhar Tilak

In 1893 Tilak reinvented the Ganesh Chaturthi converting it from an annual family celebration to a full-fledged public event.

Lord Ganesh idols are made from clay and installed at Panda’s and individual homes and worshipped for 10 days Chanting of Ganesh mantra doing Puja & Aartii worshiped is done in these 10 days of Ganesh Chaturthi festival and later immersed in water on Ananta Chaturthi means Visarjan
Apart from prayers and special events being conducted in temples that are devoted to Lord Ganesh, he is worshiped in different forms. Mostly now a days Even in South East Asian countries like Thailand and Indonesia

Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated mostly in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, and Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Delhi, and Punjab.
- Specially in Maharashtra worshipping by families at home people at their places of work and in public celebration involves installing clay Idols of Ganesh in public pandal’s and group worship home, an appropriately-sized clay image is installed and worshipped by offering puja and Prasad Modak and laddu sweet with family and friends. At the end of the festival, the idols are immersed (and dissolve) in water i.e. in lake , Ocean or in River , in some other states like rural in villages they immersed the Ganesh idol in river and well depends as where they want to do the Visarjan.
Chaturthi is celebrated for a whole 10 days when people install and decorate the Statue of Lord Ganesh in their homes and Pandal’s

- The idol is taken from the place of installation – home or public Pandal’s – devotees singing Bhajans or songs. Depending on the size of the idol, it may be carried on the shoulders of either the head of the family or a symbolic head of the area, or taken on a wooden carrier, or in a vehicle.Ganpati Bappa Moriya Pudhchya Varshi Lavkar Yaa these are the words while the devotees say to lord Ganesh while doing the Ganesh Visarjan in sea /ocean / or lake.
- All these proceedings are accompanied by chants of Ganapati Bappa Moriya, Bhajans, dance, and distribution of Prasad and flowers people carry out a full-fledged procession. - On the day of immersion 10th day performing of” Puja the idol is taken out in a procession by people who dance and sing. On the last day of Anant Chaturthi – Chaturdashi day the sea fronts are packed with mass of humanity as the idols of Ganesh are carried towards their watery People come out in hundreds and thousands and dance their way to the rivers and oceansrest among shouts of ” Ganapati Bappa Moriya, Pudhachya Varshi lavkar ya Means Come Soon Next Year.
